Milk Frother Not Foaming? (Fix)
Flat, lifeless milk is usually the milk, the temperature, or a clogged frother — not a broken machine. Here is the fix order, and when the frother itself is the limit.
What kills the foam

Fix it in order
- Start cold. About 35-40F (2-4C). Cold milk gives the frother time to build microfoam before heating.
- Pick the right milk. Fresh higher-fat dairy or barista oat milk. Skim and some ultra-pasteurized cartons foam poorly.
- Clean immediately. Dried milk blocks airflow. Wipe the whisk, run a clean-water cycle, and clear steam-tip holes.
- Fill correctly. Between the min and max lines — too little can't draw air, too much overflows.
If foam fails on every milk type and the frother is clean, the motor or aeration stage is the ceiling.
When it is the frother
- Weak motor. A frother that cannot spin air produces flat milk no matter the milk.
- No real aeration stage. Some units just heat and stir. A frother with a proper aeration phase and stable whisk is the durable fix.
